Ignore Thread: Allow Users to Ignore Threads of Their Choosing Best answer on the web
Import one product and edit two templates. Fully phrased. No PHP file edits. Tested on vB 3.6.1. Ported with permission. The original is here (http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=69261).
Any idea of what tempalte edits need to be performed for this to work?
In the threadbit template find
Code:
---------------
Code is only visible to licensed users, and only when logged into the forums.
---------------
Add this just above it
Code:
---------------
Code is only visible to licensed users, and only when logged into the forums.
---------------
Now add this to the header template at the very bottom
Code:
---------------
Code is only visible to licensed users, and only when logged into the forums.
---------------
Add the attached hide.gif (x) image to your images/misc directory
Groovy.
Anybody have the edits needed to have this work for 3.7?
Will this also block the threads from showing up in the Todays Posts or New Posts?
Any way to ignore a whole forum instead of just one thread?

Did you read the README.txt file? The template edits are written right in there.
I checked and discovered that the template edit was missing. I must have missed it during an upgrade at some point. I re-edited the Showthread template though and the option still does not show up in the drop down. I have the "Ignored Threads" link in the UserCP but nowhere for a user to actually add a thread to their ignored list.
Did something change in 3.7 that requires a different edit in the Showthread template? I would really like to get this working again. I even tried re-installing the product but it still doesn't work.
I have a few questions:
Does this hack also ignore admin/moderator threads if members choose to?
Is this hack also compatible with 3.6.4?
Yes. I just installed it.
However, one of my members just sent me this advisory:
On the home page, the title of the thread can still be viewed, unless it's replaced by another more recent thread. If one clicks on the title of the thread it can be viewed in it's entirety even tho the "ignore thread" option is activated.
Can anyone suggest a workaround for this? This isn't a portal by the way - just the basic vBulletin forum index page.
It's strange that it's not there.
Yes.
Moderators upwards being able to set a thread to be ignored by a certain user. Obviously that thread would not appear in their ignored threads list, but instead in some listing in the Mod panel. This would be rather like banning from a thread, but actually be much more effective because that user doesnt get the constant reminder they have been acted against.
Would this not be possible then?
I would be very grateful :)
Harley
I'm on 3.7 and same here on my live board.
Yes. It's a simple option change in the User CP.
What template edits do I need to perform?
@hornstar1337: there are no such options
@tazB.ca: time is always a factor; lots of things I could but probably won't do
@steelerwatch: help control urge to click, avoid seeing thread title: 3x@mPL3!
@dirtycrow: there's Selective Forum Filter (http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=98360)
Can this be done?
Why must they ignore a forum? why not just.. not read it?
If you want to exclude forum from their new posts searches there are seperate mods for that.
Yes, still works in 3.8.4 for me too.
Here's to hoping a new version that works in 4.0 is on its way. Yes? No?
Please see Mod Exploit Guidelines (http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/info.php?do=security).
If you suspect a vulnerability, please use the Report Post feature to bring this to the staff's attention, with details on the alleged exploit.
Then check your source code and see what is showing up there. Or, put something next to it like the letter X (in your template) and see if it shows up on the page. Maybe you are putting it in a conditional and the condition isn't correct so it isn't showing up. (There are two template edits to do. One in showthread and the other in usercp_shell.)
This is the biggest complaint I have received after installing this.
The users at my site love the ability to ignore threads. But, they complain of phantom posts generated from those ignored threads. Their unread post count will show a number and when they click on it, it will say no posts exist. However, the icon next to the forum area where the ignored thread is shows new posts.
If the ignored threads could be excluded from the Get New Posts count, that would be awesome.
Update what? or on what? If you're going to ask a question, at least provide a bit of information so someone can answer it.
It would turn this mod from being just a useful addition for members to being a useful addition to members and a HUGE improvement to moderating any vb forum. I could not even count the number of instances where being able to do this would have helped me out.

Not sure how hard it would be and therefore if you would want payment for it, but there is something else that could be included in this that I would find extremely useful.
Simply perfect for members who have started an arguement on an established thread.
My site is non profit, but I would gladly fork some cash out of my own pocket to see this available to me and others.
Harley
I've used it. It's pretty good.
Thank you. This is exactly what I wanted. Now to get them to add usergroup configurations as well.
I checked and rechecked each style.

what i would love to see, is ignore forum where u can select check boxes of what forums u want to see, in ur user cp, default is all checked
if one is unchecked the entire forum disappears for that user
Go through the readme file again. You need to do a manual template edit.
In the threadbit template find
Code:
---------------
Code is only visible to licensed users, and only when logged into the forums.
---------------
Add this just above it
Code:
---------------
Code is only visible to licensed users, and only when logged into the forums.

---------------
Add the attached hide.gif (x) image to your images/misc directory
Do any of you use VBPortals? I love this mod but the ignored threads still show up in the active thread listings on my portal page. Is there anybody here who can help with that?
I coulnd't find the asnwer.. so I am going to ask you :)
Do you already know if it is possible to exclude threads from ignoring (for example: important admin threads)?
Many thanks
That's what I want to know too - it's kind of critical. Anybody know?
Lo and behold, here it is!
thanks
*installed*
I've used it. It's pretty good.
What I would like to see is this mod expanded to allow users to ignore an entire forum or series of forums.
Can this be done?
I'm using this one for ignore forum. It wasn't written for 3.6 but is working perfectly on my 3.6.1 forums.
http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=91025&highlight=ignore+forum
I would gladly help donate some money to this effort out of my pocket being non-profit myself, but realizing how useful this could be for us.
Don't understand a word of that.
I read the 'read me' and installed and edited as per and it worked fine using 3.8.3
Disable or Ignore all threads that have the Thumbs up icon in it? I have one root thread with all topics for 3 different systems in it. When you post a thread in the news item you need to select a post ICON. one for 360, one for Wii and one for PS3 so if you dont care about 360 news you could ignore anything post using the 360 icon?? Would this also exclude them from searchs??
It's working fine on my 3.8.0 board.
Can this be done?
It will let your users hide a forum.
Any answers please?
Will this also block the threads from showing up in the Todays Posts or New Posts?
Any way to ignore a whole forum instead of just one thread?
THANKS!
Meaning.. if a user ignores a particular user.. they would like to ignore the entire thread started by that user. Any ideas?
Thx
Or certain forums can't be chosen?
Huge thanks!!!!
Please?
On Edit:
It works in 3.6.5!
If you want to exclude forum from their new posts searches there are seperate mods for that.
I have a very large messageboard with well over 100 forums in it. It is an rpg site with a separate forum for each rpg game. What I would like to see is a mod like this one that allows for my users to ignore forums that they are not involved in. That is why I want the "ignore forums" option.
Same here... any solution to this?
However, only one "problem". With the "ignore subforum in New Posts" one can define which usergroups who can use the feature. There should be something like this integrated in this add-on ass well.
Especially so that users who are moderators can't ignore threads.
